Episodio # 1

 Episode 1, titled “Me llamo Camila”.. I want you to pay attention and listen carefully. Remember, the more you listen, the more you will understand. Stick until the end of the podcast because I’m going to break it down for you in English, in case you are missing something.  Are you ready to learn Spanish? ¡Vamos pues!
Camila es una chica de 26 años que vive en Nueva York. Su familia es de América Latina y ella habla inglés y también español. Sus apellidos son Fernández Villanueva. En la mayoría de los países hispanos se usan dos apellidos. Su segundo nombre es Carolina. Su nombre completo es Camila Carolina Fernández Villanueva.
Escucha el diálogo entre Camila y su nueva amiga
– Amiga: Hola, me llamo Teresa ¿cómo estás? ¿cómo te llamas?
 – Camila: Hola, mucho gusto Teresa. Me llamo Camila.
 – Amiga: Un placer conocerte Camila.
– Camila: ¿Eres de Nueva York?
 – Amiga: Sí, soy de Nueva York, pero mis padres son hispanos.
– Camila: Mis padres también son hispanos, pero viven aquí en Los Estados Unidos.
 – Amiga: ¿Cuál es tu apellido?
– Camila: Mi primer apellido es Fernández y mi segundo apellido es Villanueva.
– Amiga: ¡Mi apellido también es Fernández!
 – Camila: ¿De veras?
– Amiga: ¡Sí, de veras!
 – Camila: ¡Qué coincidencia!

Camila es una chica de 26 años que vive en Nueva York: so here we are talking about Camila which is a chica or girl of 26 years old, that lives in New York. Yes, in Spanish we translate most of original cities or countries names. As in this example, new for Nueva York. I can give you more examples like this, New Zealand, is Nueva Zelanda, New Jersey for Nueva Jersey and so on. 
Su familia es de América Latina y ella habla inglés y también español
Su familia, her family es de America Latina. Here we are using the verb Ser to indicate origin. So, es de America Latina means; is from America Latina.
y ella habla inglés y también español
and she speaks English and also Spanish.
Sus apellidos son Fernández Villanueva
We are using Sus here because it is the plural possessive for she, so remember SU is the singular possessive for she and sus in the plural possessive for SHE.
So we are saying Sus apellidos son Fernnadez Villanueva. She actually has 2 lastnames. Fernnadez and Villanueva.
En la mayoría de los países hispanos se usan dos apellidos.
In most Spanish speaking countries 2 last names are used. I know it’s not how it works in North America but that’s how it in our countries.
Su segundo nombre es Carolina.
Her middle name is Carolina. So Segundo means second given name which is the middle name in English.
Su nombre completo es Camila Carolina Fernández Villanueva.
Her full name is Camila Carolina Fernández Villanueva.
Now, listen again the whole thing and try to repeat as I read.
 Camila es una chica de 26 años que vive en Nueva York. Su familia es de América Latina y ella habla inglés y también español. Sus apellidos son Fernández Villanueva. En la mayoría de los países hispanos se usan dos apellidos. Su segundo nombre es Carolina. Su nombre completo es Camila Carolina Fernández Villanueva.

Now listen to the dialogue between Camila and her new friend in English and Spanish. Then you will listen to the dialogue just in Spanish and try to repeat each phrase. Ready?
– Amiga: Hola, me llamo Teresa ¿cómo estás? ¿cómo te llamas?
– Hi, my name is Teresa. How are you? What’s your name?
 – Camila: Hola, mucho gusto Teresa. Me llamo Camila.
– Hi, nice to meet you Teresa. I’m Camila.
 – Amiga: Un placer conocerte Camila.
– It’s a pleasure to meet you Camila.
– Camila: ¿Eres de Nueva York?
– Are you from New York?
 – Amiga: Sí, soy de Nueva York, pero mis padres son hispanos.
Yes, I’m from New York, but my parents are Hispanics.
– Camila: Mis padres también son hispanos, pero viven aquí en Los Estados Unidos.
My parents are also Hispanics, but they live here in the US.
 – Amiga: ¿Cuál es tu apellido?
What’s your last name?
– Camila: Mi primer apellido es Fernández y mi segundo apellido es Villanueva.
My first last name is Fernandez and my second lastname is Villanueva.
– Amiga: ¡Mi apellido también es Fernández!
My lastname is also Fernández!
 – Camila: ¿De veras?
Really?
– Amiga: ¡Sí, de veras!
Yeah
 – Camila: ¡Qué coincidencia!
What a coincidence!
Now listing the dialogue one more time only in Spanish and try to say the phrases after me.
Amiga: Hola, me llamo Teresa ¿cómo estás? ¿cómo te llamas?
 – Camila: Hola, mucho gusto Teresa. Me llamo Camila.
 – Amiga: Un placer conocerte Camila.
– Camila: ¿Eres de Nueva York?
 – Amiga: Sí, soy de Nueva York, pero mis padres son hispanos.
